but in the city: can u see that many stars? with this night-city-lighting?

yes, fake. Brightness of stars + how long trail are, is pointing on using low f + no ND filter, while exposition is around 30+ minutes (regarding how long trails are). It would be absolutely impossible to maintain structure in foreground inside of dynamic range (read there isnt device able to capturing this in one exposition). So yes, fake. Also as we can see on stars (as mentioned before) exposition is really long (dont forget that full rotation is 24 hours) while leafs are pretty sharp, we could dicuse absolutely no wind weather but regarding open space and how tall these trees are it is extremely unlikely and exposition issue is priority anyway. This photography is fake.

well fake if you believed it is one photo, he is explaining workflow in comments few hours ago, but it is legit to say this is wrong category and it is closer to matte painting than to photography (as editing is there far over edge of typical HDR tone mapping)

depending on what you define as real or fake, it can be either. it is a series of 30s exposures over 1h at 10mm f4 and shot in raw. only thanks to the raw files I could bring out the stars the way I did (as with the naked eye far less stars were visible thanks to the harsh lighting of the temple). for the temple and trees (foreground) themselves I took a seperate picture and blended it into the stack of trails to have that part exposed correctly. the greenish area above the temple is (I'm guessing) due to me not putting the cover the viewfinder eyepiece and light spilling in from behind...

there isn't really any other way I could think of to doing this so please feel free to decide yourself if it is real or fake :) and thanks for putting so much though in :)

I put it in photography>architecture>exterior because it is a stack of photos edited in photoshop and lightroom and the temple is supposed to be the main subject.

so i'm wondering, how can you catch star-trail details sophisticated enough to appear in the middle of urban light pollution?

in editing you have to really overexpose the sky. initially, only the brightest stars were visible and those only very dimly. also, shoot in raw (that is crucial in getting a result like this) if you're interested in a before(unedited raw file)/after comparison head over to here: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi… this is a lightroom screenshot where you can actually see what depth of information raw files possess.

I've had a look now and the (in my opinion) easiest and best tutorial covering both milky way and star trails is here: www.davemorrowphotography.com/… ... and this video is about editing night sky photos in lightroom www.phogropathy.com/lets-edit-… ... I hope this helps a little. if you want to search more you could try using "night sky photography editing" or "milky way photo editing" or similar search queries ;)

Hello could you explain your method and exposure setting in a little further detail ? did you do a different exposure for the building and then blend with the stars ?
